Volunteers are needed at South Foreland Lighthouse to welcome visitors to the building. The lighthouse is owned by the National Trust and stands on the cliff top just outside the village of St. Margaret’s, near Dover. Last year, a new interactive display was installed and a new reception area and shop were opened. This year the final stages of improvements will be revealed, including a tea room. Dr Andrew Richardson and Dr Lesley Hardy have contributed to a film about Geology in the South East broadcast on Monday 21st November on BBC Inside Out. We have now put together the new Research Group programme for winter 2011/12. The activities and discussions will be based around S.E. Winbolt's fascinating account of the 1924 East Cliff excavations, as published in his book 'Roman Folkestone'.
The East cliff excavation was featured in a report on Wednesday evening, 5th October 2011. The news correspondent made two visits to the site and interviewed Keith Parfitt, Site Director, volunteers taking part in the excavations and Hannah Lewis, Project Manager.
